Nakoda on the Lake offers a unique experience of traditional Stoney culture.

The Nakoda on the Lake Spa Lodge & Conference Centre opened in 1981 as a Wilderness Centre and a way to introduce  society to the philosophy and methods that allowed Stoney people to live in the wilderness.  The Wilderness Centre allowed guests to gain insights and understanidng into Stoney values and way of life.

Since its creation Nakoda on the Lake has hosted weddings, corporate conferences and retreats while continuing the tradition of promoting Stoney culture  locally and internationally.

During your stay, you may experience first hand authentic cultural activities, cultural shows, handicraft activities, nature walks and historical Elder storytelling. These special activities are available on a pre-booked fee basis.

The Nakoda Cultural Tours features Traditional Native Teaching and Activities that are provided by Hank Snow.

Hank Snow was Nakoda born and raised in Morley, Alberta, Canada. He has been learning and practicing traditional culture all his life. Hank has delivered cultural experiences to many different groups that have come to Nakoda on the Lake for the past fourteen years.

Cultural Activities Offered:

Two Hour Interpretive Hike

The most popular activity among clientele is the two hour interpretive hike that entails Nakoda history, Nakoda culture, and introduction of local editable plants, medicine herbs, native spirituality and the medicine wheel. Minimum of ten (10) persons.

Hike to Mount Yumnathka

This activity evolves around a five hour hike to Mount Yumnathka which includes; Nakoda history, Nakoda culture, introduction of local editable plans, medicine herbs and native stories. Minimum of ten (10) persons.

Stoney Handicrafts

A hands-on activity that incorporates the construction of handicrafts such as dream-catchers, beadwork, bannock on a stick, story telling and tepee rising. Minimum of twenty (20) persons.

Nakoda Lodge was offically opened on June 11, 1981.  Entirely an enterprise of the Stoney Tribe.  It is operted by the Goodstoney Band, under the leadership o Cheif John Snow, who is the Nakoda Learning Centre Chairman.  The Centre is open to all who share a sincere interest in the heritage and culture of the Stoney People.

The public is welcome to wander though the Guest Lodge and Conference Centre, please be mindful of other guests and events that may be taking place.  Nakoa on the Lake houses an outstanding cultural display consisting of a beautiful collection of museum pieces, mounted wild life and aboriginal art.
